ISSUE 01 // IN TIME

LONGER-FORM: 3,500 w.c. max

Long Run is a home for reflective writing launching in print this Spring 2027. With an eye for the in-between, the unconventional, and transformational, Long Run celebrates the small gestures and strange occurrences that constitute a writing life.

For our inaugural issue, we are interested in stories that are woven in time, whether that is an essay developed over seasons, a story that takes place over a minute conversation, or a thought that comprises only a few lines. Maybe it’s a memory that has flipped over and over in your mind, a story that takes you to the past, or an experiment in a new future. We seek writing that embraces change as much as it does ritual, that searches for what can be found within everyday life.

Don’t know what that means? Neither do we. Just send us stuff that lives in a moment, many moments, or doesn’t even exist yet. Send us stories about moments worth reading. It’s vague on purpose.

IN-BETWEEN: 500 w.c. max

In addition to our longer, more narrative pieces, we are interested in the seeds of ideas that never make it fully realized onto the page. Something along the lines of those random thoughts you jot down on an index card and can’t decipher the next time you read it, nonsensical or even bad ideas you’ve jotted into your Notes app (we accept good ones, too). A random act of writing that every writer has, but never gets to share. We want to see it!

THE DETAILS

At present, Long Run will exist exclusively in print form, and exact distribution will become more clear when the first issue is finalized.

While we believe that writers ought to be paid more for their writing all the time, we cannot currently provide financial compensation for your work. We have visions of building to a place where we can pay our writers fairly, and eventually provide backpay for any contributors to our early issues, but we cannot make any promises at this time.

Of course we allow simultaneous submissions, but please let us know if your work has been accepted elsewhere. In your submission email, please clearly note in the subject line whether your submission is “Longer-form” or “In-Between.”
